The Great Underwear Incident

Yesterday I wore my underwear the wrong way. Not back to front. Not inside out.

I somehow managed to put one of the leg holes around my waist.

Which means one of three things:

  1. My waist is very small.
  2. My legs are much chubbier than I thought.
  3. The undies were ridiculously oversized.

The truly impressive part? I wore them like that all day. And they weren’t even uncomfortable.

I guess I was preoccupied. Which, if you come from a Mango bloodline, probably doesn’t surprise you. In fact, it’s probably only a Mango who would do this and then tell the world about it.

The experience got me thinking about mistakes.

Most of us spend far too much time worrying about getting things wrong. Yet not all mistakes are created equal. Some mistakes have no impact on anyone else. Some have a small impact. And yes, some are bigger and need to be addressed.

But many of the things we beat ourselves up about fall into the first category. They’re simply human moments. Funny stories. Lessons learned. Things we’ll laugh about later.

I love the difference in how we all respond.

Apples just ignore any error. Mistake? Nothing to see here.

Limes replay it repeatedly, analysing every detail and beating themselves up about it, often ruminating for days or even months.

Bananas can’t get over feeling terrible and apologise so much everyone gets irritated at the apology, not the mistake.

Mangoes tell everyone, laugh loudly and add it to their party repertoire.

We all make mistakes. The goal isn’t to avoid every single one. That’s impossible. The goal is to learn from them, fix what needs fixing and keep moving forward.

And if your mistake involves wearing your underwear in a way that defies both logic and anatomy, perhaps it’s best to simply have a laugh and get on with your day.

Trust me. Nobody notices your mistakes nearly as much as you do. 🍎🥭🍋🍌
